Baritone
singer Kornél Mikecz was born in 1979 in Budapest.
He started his music education in 1989, the year he started to sing in the Children Choir of the Hungarian Radio.
In 1995 he gained admission to the St. Stephen Music High School where he studied music composition for oner year. After that he proceeded to sound technique and solfeggio studies in 1998. He started his singing studies in 1996 with Judit Adrigán at the St. Stephen Music High School and continued at the conservatory of the school. After his music graduation he succesfully applied to the Academy of Music in 2002 and continued his studies with Magda Nádor singing teacher. Between 2004 and 2006 he is a student of the Vienna Academy of Music on Faculty of Singing and Oratory with teachers Walter Moore and Claudia Visca. In Budapest he gained his university degree in 2007, the main topic of his thesis are the problems of nasality.
While studying at the conservatory he had the opportunity to meet the world of opera playing on stage: Verdi: Rigoletto – Court Usher; Rossini: The Barber of Seville – Guardian; József Záborszky: Saint Elisabeth – Treasurer. During the Academy of Music he performed on stage numerous times in the pieces of Balázs Kovalik and Martina Veh.
He participated in oratoric pieces initially as phrase leader of oratoric choir then as soloist. (Bach: St Mark Passion, Stravinskij: Canticum Sacrum, Bach: E flat-Major Magnificat, Mozart: Mass at the Orphanage, Williams: Serenade to Music).
Member of the Opera Company Workshop of Buda, participating at numerous concerts with them. They primarily goal is the popularization of the classical operas in the schools (Le Nozze di Figaro, La Serva Padrona, Zauberflöte). In 2003 he is a founding member of the „Workshop of Classical Singing in the 21st Century” in the frame of „A&S Music Workshops”.
He worked together with conductors such as Péter Eötvös, Gergő Vajda, Tamás Vásáry, Mátyás Antal, Kálmán Záborszky, Heinz Artl, Ádám Medveczky and Géza Köteles, and directors such as Balázs Kovalik, Martina Veh, Clara Pons. He is a regular participator of master courses (Éva Marton, Mitsuko Shirai, Cornelia Kallisch, Balázs Kovalik, Gergő Vajda, Walter C. Moore) and modern stage pieces (Béla Bartók: Bluebeard's Castle, József Záborszky: Virágvasárnapi passió, Norbert Németh: „Untrue Romance”).
Between 2007 and 2009 he was the chorus captain and member of the ensemble of Jim Steinman – Michael Kunze Dance of the Vampires (directed by Roman Polanski and Cornelius Baltus).
His private students are trained by the theoretical system of Magda Nádor.
From September 2008 he is a singing teacher at the Jazz Department of Kodolányi János University College.
